Sapodilla: Manilkara zapota
Star-apple: Chrysophyllum cainito
Canistel / Eggfruit: Pouteria campechiana
Mamey Sapote: Pouteria sapota
Miracle Fruit: Synsepalum dulcificum
Green Sapote: Pouteria viridis
Abiu: Pouteria caimito
The Sapotaceae family name is derived from
zapote, an Aztec word for soft, sweet fruit
and “latinized” by Linnaeus as sapota.
